Growth and change for KohSamui

C9 Hotelworks, a well known global hospitality consultant firm, issued latest figures of growth of KohSamui. It estimated seven percent growth of KohSamui during the first six month of the current year, 2013. Almost 874, 824 tourists were hosted by the resort island during the first half of 2013.

Demand of domestic tourism is rising in Thailand that has made it second leading visitor source to KohSamui during the current year. During this period, almost 100,000 visitors arrived there from January to June. It caused increase of the tourists during off-peak months of the island.

Mr. Bill Barnett, managing director of C9 Hotelwork, estimates that visitors from Germany are still largest in numbers; however, Chinese and Russians visitors are increasing across the resort areas of Thailand. There is double digit growth of visitors from India, Austria and China. He observed decline in Italian and UK markets.

There are many residential development projects that have been launched or completed in present year to meet the demand of mounting demands in the area. The phase two of boutique Aqua Samui near Chaweng is an example of such projects.

There is growing trend of incoming travelers. The airports of Singapore and Hong Kong are responsible for almost 70 percent passengers visiting the island. International gateway of Kuala Lumpur witnessed direct flights in 2012. There are 16, 372 arrivals from Kuala Lumpur which were more than 14, 784, the figures of first six months of 2013. Malaysia and Penang on Firefly Airlines also manage three flights in a week.
